Advocacy Committees
Improvement of business environment, support to the reforms, implementation of best business practices as well supporting Serbia's WTO and EU accession lies at the heart and primary set of goals of the AmCham business advocacy activities.

The main precondition to achieve this is through establishing and maintaining cooperation and open policy dialogue with relevant policy stakeholders, among which, policy makers and enforcement authorities at all levels.

Ad-hoc initiatives  tackle burning policy issues that gather representatives of AmCham members around one-off project, often providing inputs for ongoing regulation changes.

Portfolio of advocacy structures includes:
  • Formulation of suggestions for improving regulations (laws and by-laws), providing appropriate argumentation, comparative examples etc. organizing policy discussions about ongoing policy issues including conferences and roundtables.

  • Monitoring implementation of the regulations, including close cooperation with the implementing authorities, providing assistance and suggestions for improving efficiency in their work, fostering customer oriented approach and providing explanations to the membership about the compliance burden through seminars and workshops.

  • Fostering exchange of experiences within membership on the topics of common interest, through focused meetings and workshops;

  • Organizing public outreach activities on specific advocacy topic such as PR campaigns, press conferences, public lectures, etc.

Advocacy work in AmCham is regulated by the Advocacy Guidelines, adopted by the Bord of Governors in March 2009, and structured through the work of the Task Forces and Committees, as well as ad-hoc advocacy initiatives. Task Forces are a temporary working groups set up by the representatives of interested AmCham members to pursue short-term initiatives or issues of common interest while Committees are a more permanent formations aimed at pursuing long-term goals. Task Fores and ad-hoc initiatives have appointed leaderships by the Board of Governors, while Committees elect their own leadership and have greater autonomy in decision making. Both Committees and Task Forces declare their goals to the AmCham membership and prepare their action plans , according to which they are assessed by the Board of Governors once a year.
